The Merrimac Butte quadrangle is located 8 to 18 miles northwest of Moab, in Grand County, Utah, along U.S. Highway 191. It lies at the north end of the Canyonlands red rock country with typical high cliffs and deep canyons, especially in the south half of the quadrangle. It is an important transportation corridor and the west boundary of Arches National Park extends into the quadrangle from the east.
