The Utah Geological Survey has compiled mineral activity summaries for Utah on an annual basis beginning in 1989. The 14-page summary for 2008. These summaries have been publishing in the May issues of Mining Engineering, a publication of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration, Inc.

The summaries divide mineral values into four broad segments of Utah?s mineral industry, including base metals, industrial metals, and energy minerals (coal and uranium). In addition to acquiring data through operator surveys, the UGS works in cooperation with the USGS and Utah Division of Oil, Gas, and Mining. A large part of the data for exploration and development activity is acquired from individual Web sites, trade industry publications, and correspondence.
