Gettings This report describes the Weber River Basin Aquifer Storage and Recovery pilot project, a three-year, multi-agency cooperative effort to evaluate the feasibility of artificial discharge of ground water in the Weber Delta area, northern Utah. The study area is about one mile west of the mouth of Weber Canyon, where the Weber River flows from the Wasatch Range to the Weber Delta subdistrict of the east shore area of Great Salt Lake. The Delta aquifer is the primary source of ground water in the area. The primary objectives of the pilot program were to (1) study the feasibility of artificial recharge and ASR (aquifer storage and recovery) near the mouth of Weber Canyon, (2) design and implement an initial experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of artificial ground-water recharge in the area, (3) conduct a high-precision gravity study to map the extent of recharged water, (4) formulate a numeric model of the local hydrogeology and the recharge experiment, and (5) make recommendations and devise a long-term plan for ASR in the study area.
