This extensive report on Utahâ€™s heavy oil and bitumen resources, often referred to as tar sands, discusses both the surface and subsurface resources. The report discusses in detail the reservoir and fluid characteristics of Utahâ€™s heavy oil and bitumen deposits, focusing on the geologic setting and character of the reservoirs, the properties of the reservoired heavy oils and bitumen, and appropriate methods for in situ recovery of these resources. The deposits discussed are: P.R. Springs-Hill Creek, Sunnyside, Asphalt Ridge, Whiterocks, Wonsits Valley, and Tar Sand Triangle. The 113-page report is extensively illustrated with 97 figures of maps, cross sections, charts, and core and outcrop photographs.
