Large tonnage, open-pit minable occurrences of clinoptilolite exist in Utah. Preliminary sampling shows that six clinoptilolite occurrences may have the tonnage, quality and purity sufficient for economic exploitation. This report briefly describes Utah's 56 known zeolite occurrences, and describes occurrences of possible economic potential in depth.

The report also outlines current and potential commercial uses of zeolites, and reviews the mineralogy, chemistry and structure of zeolites. Of some 48 known, naturally occurring zeolites, eleven have been identified in Utah: analcime, chabazite, clinoptilolite, heulandite, laumontite, mordenite, natrolite, phillipsite, stellerite, stilbite and thomsonite. Discovery of additional zeolite resources in the state is probable.
