The Richfield quadrangle is located in central Utah and includes parts of the Pavant Range, Sevier Valley, and Bull Claim Hill. Exposed strata are Tertiary in age and include the Flagstaff Formation which is mapped in six informal members, The Green River Formation, the Crazy Hollow Formation, the Aurora Formation, and the Dipping Vat Formation. The Dipping Vat Formation is overlain by volcanic units derived from the Marysvale volcanic belt south of the quadrangle, including the Three Creeks Tuff Member of the Bullion Canyon volcanics, crystal-poor dacitic lava flows, the tuff of Albinus Canyon which is mapped in two informal members, the lava flows of Signal Peak, and the Osiris Tuff. The Aurora Formation is formalized and a type section is designated. Information in this publication includes: text of the geologic history of the quadrangle, descriptions of map units, correlation fo map units, a lithologic column, and a cross-section.

This Open-File release makes information available to the public during the review and production period necessary for a formal UGS publication. This map may be incomplete, and inconsistencies, errors, and omissions have not been resolved. While the document is in the review process, it may not conform to UGS standards; therefore it may be premature for an individual or group to take actions based on its contents.
