Sevier Lake, a remnant of Pleistocene Lake Bonneville, is located in the south-central part of Millard County, Utah. Sevier Lake is an ephemeral body, normally appearing as a dry playa, but partially covered with water during the spring runoff, and completely covered during years of high precipitation. Inflow to Sevier Lake comes mainly from the Sevier River, whose chemistry changes from calcium-agnesiumbicarbonate type water near its headwaters at Hatch, Utah, to a sodium-magnesium-chloride-sulfate type as it enters the lake. Dissolution of salts from the Arapien Shale and the precipitation of carbonate minerals appear to account for much of this change.

This CD-ROM contains an 81-page report in easily readable PDF format. The report discusses the early explorations and numerous studies of the Sevier Lake, and its main tributary, the Sevier River. These sections are followed by the work done by Crystal Peak Minerals to characterize the lake?s saline resources. Much of the data that were collected during this exploration and early development program are presented herein.
