The Quaternary Fault and Fold Database and Map of Utah is a compilation of existing information on faults and fault-related folds considered to be potential earthquake sources. Previous compilations of Quaternary fault and fold maps and data to characterize earthquake sources in Utah were completed by Anderson and Miller and Hecker. The U.S. Geological Survey, as part of the World Map of Major Active Faults, has compiled a series of national digital maps showing locations, ages, and activity rates of major faults and folds, and an accompanying database. The Utah part of the national map was taken from the digital Quaternary tectonics map of Hecker. We have updated the Utah map from studies completed since publication of Hecker, and recompiled fault data in Hecker following guidelines set by Haller and others to provide a compatible database for use by the USGS.

This report contains database entries for 212 faults, fault sections, and folds, and one historical surface-faulting earthquake in Utah. Each structure has a separate database entry and specific references. For faults that cross the state border, database entries may be taken largely from the database of the adjacent state. Terms used in the database are defined below. Although Hecker included information on other folds and Quaternary deformation in Utah, only those involving a component of Quaternary faulting (fault-related folds) are included here.
