The Midvale quadrangle is located in the south-central part of Salt Lake Valley. The quadrangle is essentially covered by upper Pleistocene Lake Bonneville deposits, upper Pleistocene reworked Lake Bonneville deposits, and Holocene Jordan River floodplain alluvium, eolian sand, and alluvial-fan deposits. Bonneville lake-cycle deposits, both transgressive and regressive, consist of deep-water sediments, shoreline sand deposits, and gravelly barrier beach and deltaic deposits. One small quartzite outcrop, believed to be part of the Pennsylvanian Oquirrh Formation, is present in the southeast comer of the quadrangle.
