The San Rafael Desert 30'x60' quadrangle is located in east-central Utah and covers a large area that includes the San Rafael Swell, the San Rafael Reef, the San Rafael Desert, the I-70 corridor, and Goblin Valley State Park. Exposed geologic units include Tertiary dikes and sills, Cretaceous through Mississippian sedimentary strata, and a variety of Quaternary deposits. The northeast-trending asymmetrical anticline of the San Rafael Swell cover much of the western half of the map area and is one of the most well-known geologic structures in Utah. The San Rafael Reef is the steeply dipping eastern limb of this broad anticline and is mostly demarcated by the Mesozoic Navajo and Wingate Sandstones. Tilted strata from the scenic flatirons that can be seen along I-70 and U-24. Many normal faults cut strata in the map area. The majority are in the San Rafael Swell and trend approximately east-west.

The digital version contains geographic information system (GIS) files in ESRI file geodatabase and shapefile formats. It also contains two plates and a 24-page booklet. Specialized GIS software is required to use the GIS files.
