The Mount Pisgah quadrangle is located in Box Elder and Cache Counties, Utah, and the U.S. Highway 89-91 transportation corridor runs through the quadrangle between Brigham City and Logan. More than 25,000 feet (7600 m) of Proterozoic meta-sedimentary and mostly marine Cambrian through Pennsylvanian sedimentary rocks are well exposed in an east-dipping homocline (strata with similar strike and dip) in the Wellsville Mountain and Pisgah Hills, making the quadrangle a nearly ideal site for geologic studies. This homocline is bounded on the west and east by the active Wasatch and West Cache fault zones, respectively. Tertiary rocks are present in the southern Cache Valley on the east margin of the quadrangle and, with rocks to the east in the Paradise quadrangle, have better defined the geologic history of northern Utah. Karst is well developed on Cambrian through Mississippian strata in the homocline, in particular at Dry Lake and Mantua Reservoir.
